Looking for something to do on or around our waterfront?
There’s always the beach routine: swim, play in the sand or sit in the sun.
I have a better idea for you to enjoy our waterways.
No need to work up a sweat like swimming, jet-skiing or sailing.
Try one of these relaxing and entertaining ways to view our beaches and water.
As usual, I say this, these are not the venues in the county to do these activities, but these are the ones I choose to highlight. Why not try these first and then branch out?
DivaDuck
You start your 75-minute tour at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. The first thing you’ll notice is the actual vehicle – a cross between a boat and tour boat. That would be the DivaDuck amphibious tour vehicle. Now, you’re probably thinking how in the world will this thing allow me to view both the beaches and the water. As you drive away from CityPlace (on paved roads) your narrated tour will shisk you through many of West Palm Beach’s historic neighborhoods. From West Palm Beach your trip will take you across the bridge to Palm Beach Island where you will pass such venues as Society of the Four Arts, The Breakers Hotel, Flagler Museum and Bethesda-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church. The suddenly you leave the road and “Splash” into the Intracoastal Waterway with your DivaDuck. Your narrated water tour will take you past many of Palm Beach’s luxurious mansions and yachts. Your tour will take you past Peanut Island, the “secret” bomb shelter built exclusively for President John Kennedy. Just as you get used to the water excursion your trip will pop back onto the paved road and continue on to the eclectic shopping and district of Clematis Street where you will pass the Centennial Fountain. Your last stop is back to CityPlace at the “Duck Stop” where you will depart the DivaDuck. You’ll be entertained throughout the entire trip and will even learn a thing or two about the area. Diva Duck Tour is a great experience for the family, a conference group or a small group of visiting friends to enjoy. Remember to thank your tour guide and captain with a loud “Quack”!
Delray Yacht Cruises
Another way to view our local waterways is onboard either the Lady Atlantic or the Lady Delray, two exquisite yachts that will take you out on the water. These two luxurious yachts leave beautiful Downtown Delray Beach from Veterans Park along Atlantic Avenue and travel the Intracoastal Waterway. Join Captain Joe and Kerry Reardon as you cruise along your 2-hour narrated trip on one of the two yachts. On your way you will see many of the native marine-life and some of Delray Beach’s sprawling mansions. While touring the waterway you can enjoy one of your favorite beverages as well as on-boards snacks. Consider taking a “sunset cruise” and view the sun setting along the coast as you relax on your own private yacht (for 2 hours anyway). Delray Yacht Cruises also offers many “specialty cruises” to choose from as well. Some of the cruises you can take include a holiday cruise with full food menu and special sailing times; the New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dancing cruise to view the fireworks; Holiday Light Cruises that showcase the decorated homes along the waterfront and a Valentines Dinner Cruise for you to share with that special someone. Whatever cruise you decide to take, sit back, relax and enjoy the view. It’s all worth it!
See! There’s so much more to Palm Beach County’s beaches than just sand and sun. Hope aboard one of these vessels and have a great day on the water!
